Resizing Images 101: Xnview

    xnview

We’ll be using a free program for this method. Go here to download it:

    http://www.xnview.com/

Click on Download link on the left menu.
Then find your OS and Direct Download it.

This program is slightly larger at 3.3mb. However, it still is not too long a download.

Another bonus to this is that it has a Mac version.

    1. Run the program
    - locate your image file
    - double-click on it

    2. Click on Image > Resize

    resizing images

    4. Set the three slots. The two in the circle should be set to the max. of 480 pixels for width and 640 pixels for length. Then where the arrow is, make sure it says 72. I am not sure if it effects it much in this program, but I always have it set thus when in Photoshop.

    3. Sharpen - An excellent feature in this program
    - Click on Filter > Misc > Sharpen
This will popup a scroll window. Make sure to select the box marked Auto View. Now scroll it until it looks right to you. This is a much better feature allowing a great control over how sharp you make the image.

    4. Click on Save > Save As

    jpeg options

Make sure the Save as Type is JPG.
    5. Click on Options at the bottom of the screen.

    step3

    6. now go find the image,
    - Right click on it
    - Select Properties
the size should be about right . If it is too big, you will need to scroll the Quality bar to a lower number. I have found if you post an image that is a full 480x640, you have to take the quality to 15-20 many times. It depends on what colors are used an how much color variety is in your picture.

Hope this helps.
